Fitness Centre Guidelines

Our Fitness Centre guidelines ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy fitness with respect and confidence. This is a judgement-free space. Please be kind and respectful to people of all fitness levels.

As a valued member of our shared space, we ask that you familiarize yourself and follow these guidelines:

  • Anyone under the age of 14 is not permitted in the Fitness Centre.
  • Recording and photography of any type is not permitted.
  • Respect for staff, and other members must be demonstrated at all times. Inappropriate behaviour such as swearing, physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated.
  • For your safety, proper athletic attire (running shoes, athletic shorts/pants and shirt) is to be worn. Jeans, loose/baggy clothing, or accessories that may cause damage or injury are not permitted.
  • Indoor clean athletic footwear is required at all times in all locations of the Fitness Centre. No open-toed shoes, dress shoes, crocs, or outdoor footwear are permitted.
  • Fitness Centre staff reserves the right to deny access to anyone who is not wearing appropriate, safe, and respectful clothing suitable for athletic activities.
  • Bags, accessories, jackets or personal items must be secured in a day use locker and are not permitted in the Fitness Centre. Locks are available for purchase at the Hawk Desk.
  • All equipment must be sanitized and wiped clean after use. Weights and equipment are to be returned to its designated place after each use.
  • All cable machines must be used with an appropriate cable attachment at all times.
  • Be considerate. Allow others waiting for a machine to work in between your sets.

  • Independent personal training is not permitted. Only certified personal trainers employed by the Department of Athletics and Recreation may perform personal training within the Fitness Centre.
  • Failure to adhere to Fitness Centre guidelines or comply with staff instructions and proper facility use may result in removal from our facility or loss of facility and/or member privileges.
  • Lost and stolen items are not the responsibility of the Department of Athletics and Recreation.
  • If there is an emergency, please contact/locate facility staff in the Fitness Centre or Hawk Desk immediately for assistance.Â
