What is Open Recreation?

Open Recreation refers to time set aside at the Athletic Complex gym (also called Open Gym), Ansley Alumni Field (also called Open Field) and field time in the dome at University Stadium (also called Open Dome). During these times, students are welcome to play a variety of sports to their leisure. Equipment (basketball, soccer ball, badminton nets or equipment, volleyball nets or equipment etc.) can be signed out for use during open gym time at the Hawk Desk by showing a valid OneCard. Additionally, Open Recreation also includes lane swims, open swims and open climb times (free pass required) available to all students.

Schedules

Hours for Open Recreation activities vary by location and depending on other bookings and reservations. As of September 8, 2026, Open Recreation times can be found on the calendar of the homepage of the Fusion member portal at register.laurierathletics.com OR in the Open Recreation page in the member portal OR or view the calendars on the FusionGO app, Athletics & Recreation’s new dedicated mobile app - to stay informed, manage your schedules, change your class reservations, and much more. Due to the high volume of facility bookings, Open Recreation time is limited and subject to change. Group Exercise classes are also included in these calendars and are open to all students (with a free pass).
