Cricket Rules

Team Composition

  • Rosters may not be larger than 12 total players
  • A maximum of 6 players are permitted on the field at one time for the defending team
  • A game may not proceed with less than 6 players. An exception can be made if an injury occurs during a game

Game Procedures

  • Games are Test Matches which are scheduled for 50 minutes. Each team will get to bat for either 6 overs, until 5 players are out, or for 25 minutes, whichever comes first
  • Teams will be provided 5 minutes to sign in and warm up. Warm up will begin precisely on the hour (e.g., 8:00pm). At the end of warm up, if the minimum number of players are not present, the team will default
  • Default games result in a score of 1-0
  • If both teams default, it will result in a score of 0-0
  • Captains are responsible for rock, paper, and scissors. The winner will determine which team will bat first

Rules

Cricket Rules apply with the following adaptations.
  • The objective of the game is to score more runs than the opposing team
  • There is a batting (offensive) team and fielding (defending) team
  • The batting team will have two players on the field designated as the Batsmen, and the fielding team assigns 6 players to the field
  • The fielding team will assign a bowler who will bowl the ball towards the batsman. The bowler’s intent should be to get the opposing batsmen out
  • Bowls must be bowled overarm and within the channel of play
  • If the bowler bowls the ball high (above the waist), wide (outside the channel) or is a no ball (an illegal bowl), an extra run is awarded to the batting team
  • A batsman is considered out when they are:
    • Bowled out – when the bowler hits the batsman’s wickets
    • Caught out – when a batsman hits the ball, and a fielder catches it before it hits the ground
    • Run out – when the fielding team throws the ball into the wickets before the batsman gets to the crease
    • Leg before wicket (LBW) – if the umpire thinks the batsman’s leg has interfered with the ball from hitting the wickets
    • Stumped out – if the batsman misses the ball the back catcher may hit the wickets before the batsman returns to the crease
    • Hit wicket – the batsman gets his own partner out by hitting their wickets with the ball
    • Roof ball – the ball hits the roof directly
  • To score, batsman work in pairs as they try to hit the ball, score runs and defend their wickets
  • The batsmen should try to hit the ball away from the wickets and run to their partner’s crease
  • Runs are rewarded as follows:
    • 1 run is awarded each time the batsmen make it to each other’s crease
    • 1 run is awarded if the ball hits the side walls
    • 4 runs are awarded if the ball hits the straight wall on a bounce
    • 6 runs are awarded if the ball hits the straight wall directly
    • Batsman can run if the ball hits any of the walls
  • After both teams have batted, the team with the most runs will be considered the winner
